The anticipation, the atmosphere, the camaraderie, the excitement…Alongside friends and many scores of city folk and visitors, I witnessed the cyclists go by perched on the railings on Regent Street. Next to me was an avid fan of the Tour de France who has followed the sport for nearly 20 years. She said that this was the best sporting event for her in the whole year. Knowing that this was such a special occasion for her made me feel even that bit more privileged to have the opportunity to witness, even for the brief moment, the colour, sounds and personalities that have made this happen.
Big occasions have an infectious nature, not only do they unite strangers in a moment in time; they bring a sprinkling of joy, to the most loyal fans and those with just the casual interest. You cannot save a special moment in a jar so it’s just fortunate to be able to say I was there when…
